in Port St. Lucie. The group
hopes this year’s Turkey
Classic, held Nov. 11, would
raise $10,000.
The members’ biggest fund-raiser is the Turkey Classic “If
it wasn’t for Lucille we wouldn’t have had the Turkey
Classic or Monday Couples,” said Ralph Schiavone. “I just
give her inspiration. The Turkey Classic has become our marquee
event.’’
One of the group’s favorite charities is the Faith
Congregational Church, which opens its doors to the public
every Thursday night for dinner. “I had seen an ad in the
paper,’’ said Lucille Schiavone. “Now what better place to
give money than to someone who feeds people every week?
He feeds anyone who’s hungry or lonely. You don’t have to
be destitute.’’
The Rev. James Mory, pastor at Faith Congregational, estimates
that the Turkey Classic has donated more than $12,000
to the Thursday dinner program. “They have supported us
for four or five years now. I can’t say enough about them.
“They help us to reach out to people year-round. And they
enjoy themselves so much on that weekend. It’s a tremendous
support. They enable us to serve a very good meal.
They are touching the lives of people they may never meet.’’
