Around Town
Nearly 250 friends of CASTLE enjoyed the 11th Annual Holiday
Magic Celebration. An auction featured the sale of seven live
Christmas trees. Mercedes-Benz of Fort Pierce donated a 24-
month lease for a 2008 C-230 Mercedes. Kimberly & Company
Jewelers provided a signature champagne diamond. As the
evening came to a close, $47,000 had been raised thanks to the
generosity of all who participated.

was its 11th annual to benefit the Exchange Club CASTLE.
This year’s festive event, also set at Tradition Town Hall, featured
seven artfully and fully lighted Christmas trees, sold in
a live auction. The tree we decorate at home is actually one
of the earliest Holiday Magic trees our family purchased the
year the Iraq war begun. It features nostalgic decorations
including hand-sewn rag dolls and laminated mini Peace
posters that I unpack each year, hoping that that the new
year will bring an end to the war.
Over the years, the celebration has evolved with Mercedes-
Benz of Fort Pierce donating a 24-month lease for a
Mercedes, this time a 2008 C-300, won by George Juno and
the signature Champagne Diamond Drawing offered by
Kimberly & Company Jewelers. One hundred twenty-five
guests purchased glasses of champagne, but only one held a
beautiful 1.25 carat diamond ring, won by lucky Renee
Barnes. The festivities were complete with a wonderful selection
of gourmet food, wine tasting and desserts. Nearly 250
friends of CASTLE enjoyed the Nov. 17 celebration, an event
with a purpose: More than $47,000 was raised to support
programs and services for the prevention of child abuse.
Guests at this year festivities included CASTLE Board
President Dave Rieger and his wife, Kimberly; Jim and
Maria McKenzie; Mike and Joann Motto; Steve and
Colleen Ring; Anthony and Maria Schwab’ Judy Seelin;
Joanne Baker; Rhonda Blakey; Scott and Monique Bruhn;
Owen and Linda Chastain; Jodi Dargan; Scott Hanawalt;
Ken and Emmie Sattler; Peter Torelli; Charles and Judith
Bunnell; Denise and Ryland LeClair-Robbins; James and
Sandra Feeney; Anthony Donadio; Joe DeRoss; and Rob
Schweiger.
VIOLA PLAYER NEEDED
Jean Krauklin and Vollmer Hetherington are St. Lucie
West retirees with a musical problem: they need a viola
player. Let Jean explain: “Playing string quartets in each
other’s homes — Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn
— is a wonderful way to spend a morning with other
retirees. The quartet Vollmer played with for several years
has dissolved now that three of them have moved into distant
retirement homes. We’re glad they are happy there, but
we need to get another quartet going here in the Port St.
Lucie/Stuart/Fort Pierce
neighborhood.”
The rest of the quartet
is lined up and anxious to
play. Vollmer, the violinist,
graduated the New
England Conservatory
and has played in the
Boston Pops, in Broadway
show orchestras and professional
string quartets
and has even studied violin
making in his retirement.
Jean plays the flute
and often accompanies
the quartet…yes, that
makes them a quintet. If
you play the viola or
know someone who can,
get in touch with them at
772-871-6653.
