SIDEWALK SERIES (III, IV, VIII)
(at left and bottom)
“I am enamored by the wonderful abstract designs and
patterns that Mother Nature puts right in front of us for
free. These particular paintings were inspired by worn
and aged sidewalks. The various colorations and textures
of the pavement are very influential to my subconscious.
The wonderful cracks and separations provide an
immediate division of paper/canvas or whatever substrate
you’re working with. This does not mean that when
you view my paintings that you’re going to see a sidewalk
but you will see the power of imagination mixed
with paint and hopefully you’ll be invited to take your
own journey and see where your imagination takes you.”
QUILLED SERIES (II AND III)
(at right and top right)
“These are works of imagination and
conjure up a feeling of romanticism and
a time frame from long ago. Maybe a
love letter written long ago, maybe a
memory that is long gone but not forgotten
or perhaps a thought never spoken
— the viewer decides. These works have
to be executed when the mood dictates.
They’re very spontaneous but only when
my heart and soul have been summoned.
It’s a feeling that comes from
within and ends up as self expression on
paper. Even the color schemes for this
series are somber and soft and express a
sense of pensiveness.”
Carol Staub works in series. Here are her
thoughts on two of them:
