Mystery, art and intrigue were in the air at the St.
Lucie Habitat for Humanity’s Black & White
Mystery Gala and Art
Auction. Over 100 Habitat supporters,
sponsors and guests attended the
event held at the PGA Education
Centre at PGA Village on May 19.
This was not the first time the St.
Lucie Habitat hosted an art auction,
but it was the first gala for the nonprofit
organization. Habitat Executive
Reach Sue-Ellen Sanders at
Director Al Rivett and gala chairman
772.971.6868 or
Scott Anderson declared the event a
success. Both silent auction and live
auction featured artwork from such notables as A.E. Backus,
the Highwaymen, Steven Babecki, Ellen Fischer, Linda Relis,
Nancy Smythe and Philip Steel, as well as gift certificates
from restaurants, spas and fabulous trips to Utah and
Tennessee.
Mystery at an art auction? Blame the tables filled with
wrapped black and white boxes, each filled with a mystery
prize. Donors could take their chances and chose a prize
worth $25, $50 or $100.
Live auctioneer Reed Hartman added the intrigue to the
evening, as the debonair auctioneer inspired and encouraged

guests to raise their paddles in the air to raise money
for Habitat. Jennifer Palm, resource development manager
for the organization, helped to coordinate a very capable
group of gala committee members, including Scott
Anderson, Paula Hosein, Lise Hudson, Al Rivett, Pat Scott,
Madeleine Warns, Maureen Woodward and Linda Relis.
“We are proud to lend our support to the organization
which fulfills a growing need in our community by providing
quality housing for those who can’t afford conventional
housing,’’ said gala chairman Anderson, who also represents
Bank of America. Other major sponsors included
Scripps Luminaries, Grand Bank & Trust, A Day of Delight
Spa, Christian FM, Capitol Printing and National City Bank.
Guests enjoyed a delicious buffet with salmon and chicken.
