Welcome to the summer edition of Port St. Lucie Magazine.
ANTHONY INSWASTY
There was a time in Port St. Lucie, once a seasonal refuge for many northerners
seeking to avoid the cold winter, when it almost seemed as if things folded up in
the summer. Not anymore.
Now businesses stay open year-round and some former snow birds even stopped their
migration to the north. Truth is, Florida summers aren’t so bad. Port St. Lucie’s hottest
month, August, for example, has average highs of 89 degrees and lows of 75.
Fewer tourists visit the area during the summer, of course, and savvy residents know
summer is the best time to avoid crowds and take advantage of the many things Port St.
Lucie has to offer.
And one of those is golf. As Wendy Dwyer writes in our cover story, residents have more
than 20 courses available to them during the summer. Tee times are easier to get and rates
for a round of golf are generally lower this time of year.
And because of the relaxed atmosphere, according to Dwyer’s story, summer is also a
great time to learn to play golf.
Port St. Lucie’s wealth of golf courses is one of the reasons U.S. News and World Report
ranked Port St. Lucie one of the 78 best places to live in the nation and one of the eight best
places to retire.
“Port St. Lucie has a more relaxed atmosphere than its larger neighbors,’’ states the
magazine’s report on the city. “Its clean streets and quiet neighborhoods are woven around
scenic waterways and lush green golf courses.’’
Whether you are enjoying a round of golf on one of the city’s great courses or taking in
the great visuals the courses have to offer, have a great summer!
