Arts in St. Lucie
All About Art
Vibrant & Distinctive
St. Lucie’s vibrant art scene is a shining jewel
on the Treasure Coast. Visitors will find art
sprinkled throughout the area in many forms
such as sculptures, murals and mosaic tiled
benches in public places, visual artworks
hanging in the storefronts of local galleries,
museums dedicated to the life and work of
nationally renowned artists, or public utility
boxes colorfully wrapped in artistic designs.
Art truly surrounds you in St. Lucie.
Flock to the Peacock Arts District in Fort
Pierce, named after the iconic, beautiful
and bright-colored peacocks that roam the
streets and have quickly become the latest
odd, yet intriguing unofficial tourist attraction.
And don’t miss downtown historic Fort Pierce
where the art scene thrives in a charming,
small town atmosphere. Plan a visit to the A.E.
Backus Museum & Gallery which houses the
nation’s largest public exhibition of artwork
by Florida painter A.E. Backus, as well as
original works by the Florida Highwaymen,
world-renowned African American landscape
artists. Every Saturday, arts and crafts vendor
booths are on display from 8am to 1pm at
Marina Square in downtown and be sure
to stroll the nearby streets and discover
locally-owned shops selling art, furniture,
homemade soaps and candles, and other
creative collectibles and gifts.
Head a little further south to Port St.
Lucie and stroll through the art gallery
at the MidFlorida Credit Union Event
Center, a beautifully-appointed exhibition
space offering local and regional artists a
professional venue to advance and display
their work. Be sure to check the events
calendar for upcoming exhibitions and events
at the venue. Schedule a visit to the Port
St. Lucie Botanical Gardens where their
charming shop features beautiful pieces of
locally made gifts, art and other collectibles.
