Heritage Trail - Starting Point
Fort Pierce The City of Fort Pierce is one of the oldest
settlements on the east coast of Florida having
been established on July 1, 1905. It’s a unique
Florida destination that has retained its ‘Old Florida’
fishing village character with a friendly, welcoming
atmosphere. In the last decade, historic downtown
Fort Pierce has experienced a revitalization. While
preserving many of the period architecture, it has
also added unique points of interest, visitor-friendly
establishments and a weekly farmers market
continually ranked as one of the top-ten in the U.S.
In 2014, USA Today recognized Fort Pierce as one of
the most idyllic and historic main streets in the USA.
The downtown district
is perfectly situated
along the waterfront
of the Indian River
Lagoon — the nation’s
most biologically
diverse estuary and
home to over 4,000
species of plants and
animals. Fort Pierce
City Marina, which has
top-notch amenities
for boaters and
anglers, serves as
the area’s epicenter
for activity. Within
walking distance,
visitors discover
unique boutiques
and art galleries,
local retail shops,
and lively restaurants
and bars providing an
enthralling arts and
cultural scene.
