PARKS
The ground has been prepared for the western entrance to the park via the roundabout. To the right will be a grassy lawn with walkways shaded by trees,
game tables, benches and more.
20
can rest and look out over the water or watch manatees feeding
on sea grasses.
Now, with several more grants at the ready, the city is starting
work on the improvements at Jetty Park, and the state Department
of Transportation is building a roundabout near the
park entrance. Work should be completed by early summer.
The grants include:
$1,600,000 – National Scenic Byways Program — Site construction
and construction engineering inspection services for
park improvements.
$200,000 – Florida Department of Environmental Protection
(FDEP) Land and Water Conservation Fund Program — for
picnic facilities, restrooms or other related support facilities.
$135,611 – FDEP Florida Recreation Development Assistance
Program — for project elements such as bike path,
gazebo, landscaping, lighting, picnic facilities, restrooms, and
other related support facilities.
If a tourist sends an email with pictures home to friends,
there’s a good chance there will be a reference to South
Beach and the experience of walking out on the jetty and
into a timeless picture featuring the blue Atlantic, strolling
couples and patient fishermen who had only existed in their
imaginations. The new park will give them even more to
write home about.
