Helping Haitians change Haiti through education

Do you have immediate needs because of the coronavirus pandemic?: Yes
What are they?: We are providing families of our students in Haiti (1200) with COVID-19 Prevention Kits, which include buckets with faucet (to facilitate handwashing because families don’t have running water), clorox, soap and laminated COVID-19 prevention flyer in Haitian Creole and with images. We are also facilitating for families to bring t-shirts to tailors to have masks sewn. This is an inexpensive way to ensure that virtually every Haitian can have a mask. Finally, with knowledge that the economy in Haiti is only going to get worse, we’re strengthening our gardening program by helping families get 55 gallon drums and simple spouting so that they can collect rain water from their roofs for watering their gardens.
How can people donate?: For details about giving options (phone, online, check, etc.) visit: https://haitipartners.org/giving-options/

Mission:

For over 50 years, Samaritan Center’s residential Christian program has helped boys with behavioral issues become young men of character. Boys in grades 1 through 8 come to Samaritan Center as a result of inappropriate behavior resulting in poor academic performance. Prior to the closure of our campus due to the pandemic, Samaritan Center boys resided at our Stuart, Florida campus five days a week. This residential aspect allows us to address our boys’ academic performance as well as their behavior in and out of the classroom. Our team approach also includes counseling for each boy’s family to improve their parenting skills by learning to work our proven behavioral system in their own homes.

Do you have immediate needs because of the coronavirus pandemic?: Yes
What are they?: Samaritan Center is entirely self-funded through fundraising events and support from individual donors, churches and grants/foundations. Our fundraising was cut short this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and we have no immediate way to recoup this funding. At the same time, we are meeting today’s challenges by expanding our services to include remote learning and virtual counseling. We are also sanitizing our campus to prepare for the boys’ eventual return. So while our funding has been cut short, our services have become more challenging to provide – and more critically needed – than ever.
How can people donate?: They can donate online via our web site, at https://www.thesamaritancenter.org/donate/, phone us at 772-287-4123, or mail in their contribution.
