Oodles to see and enjoy
The arts bring people together for cultural understanding and a shared sense of
community to enrich lives. Literature, music, dance, theater, painting, sculpture and
architecture are among the categories of the arts, and residents of Port St. Lucie are
proud and fortunate enough to benefit from all these and more creative endeavors.
The arts are fundamental to human expression, providing new ways of thinking and
viewing the world no matter where we live. And, of course, there’s just the plain fact that
the arts offer entertainment and joy. Examples of the arts can be found just about anywhere
here, from public events and school stages to libraries, nightclubs and the local civic center.
Organizations bring us a variety of entertainment options. Residents can also take in the
beauty of the area at lovely garden and art exhibits or view nature’s art with guided excursions
through local parks.
Online resources may have lots of reading material available, but true lovers of literature
still want the feel and the smell of pages in books. They can find used and new products
by visiting The Book Exchange or Poetic Justice where shelves are stacked with classics,
bestsellers, local writings, children’s books and poetry Page 32.
Local theater enthusiasts have just opened the Treasure Coast Theatre for live performances
in a unique setting, the only theater of its kind in the city Page 8.
Concerts and music venues are plentiful. Read about a former opera singer who still
performs professionally and teaches music or check out the story of a local steel drum
player who thrills audiences using Caribbean music and other genres with a twist. Stories
on some of our interesting people start on Page 37.
Architectural design helps make Port St. Lucie the envy of many areas nationwide. Enjoy
one example of an indoor/outdoor concept that combines nature with home interior on
Page 14.
There’s a lot to see and enjoy in our community, and these are just some of the approaches
folks in Port St. Lucie can use to take advantage of the arts available to them locally.
