The National
Navy UDTSEAL
Museum,
dedicated to
the elite warriors from
World War II teams
to today’s SEALs,
draws more than
60,000 visitors to the
Treasure Coast each
year. For the growing
number of visitors
from all over the nation and world, it was named
the Best Tourist Attraction on the Treasure Coast for
2015. The museum, which also garnered the award
in 2012, features a memorial to fallen SEALs and their
predecessors with names inscribed on the black
granite panels of a wall behind a reflecting pool and a
sculpture. The SEAL museum is so popular that it built
a new 8,000-square-foot section to help house some
of the many displays it keeps in storage and to develop
new displays, many of them interactive and youth-
and adult-friendly. Anyone who loved the 2013 movie
Captain Phillips about the Merchant Marine captain
who was captured by Somali pirates and freed by
three perfect SEAL shots into a lifeboat that took out
the pirates will be fascinated to see the bright orange
lifeboat on display. The latest acquisition is a Black
Hawk helicopter. A new obstacle course to challenge
youthful visitors was just opened, too. The museum
may be best known for its Veterans Day Muster that
draws thousands of veterans and families for an
event lasting several days and includes a thrilling
demonstration of the work of the SEALs. The Treasure
Coast is the richer for having the SEAL museum on
North Hutchinson Island.

WHAT R E A D E R S S AY
‘‘ ‘‘ Bringing visitors from out-of-town here is a must. You really
get a sense of the history of U.S. amphibious training.
The new interactive exhibits are exciting. Very impressive
that Captain Phillips’ lifeboat is in the collection, too.
‘‘ ‘‘ This place inspires excellence and patriotism.
