New year, new neighbors,
new beginnings
It’s officially 2022 and I have to tell
you that these last 12 months have
been a whirlwind especially when it
came to the city’s economic growth. From
new restaurants and businesses to new
residents, Port St. Lucie is proving to be a
great place to live and work.
Port St. Lucie has also become one of the
fastest growing cities in Florida. I recently
met two families, one from Texas and one
from California, who moved to Tradition
for the job opportunities and the amazing
home prices. Both love the cozy neighborhood
feeling of the area, especially the
walking distance to shops and restaurants.
In this issue, Glenn Swift writes about
Tesoro, beginning on Page 12. For the last
eight years, it sat dormant. Previously
owned by Wellington land investor Glen
Straub, it had been on the market for quite
some time.
I was a member of The Racquet Club
and pool club and attended many charity
events there. I also had a membership at its
spa in the clubhouse. I was so disappointed
when it closed. However, it was purchased
last year by three partners who are not here to flip this beautiful community but want to
stay and make it a diamond in the City of Port St Lucie.
Anthony Westbury has written an in-depth profile of Andrew Treadwell, the new
president of Indian River State College’s Pruitt Campus. The youthful administrator comes
with an impressive resume and even more impressive recommendations from three very
powerful mentors. Page 20
On page 32, writer Wendy Dwyer introduces us to Francisco Ixcoy Ajiataz, owner and
executive chef of Zest Kitchen and Bar, who emigrated from Guatemala in search of the
American dream. And if your looking for a good read, check out Ellen Gillette’s story on
Polly and Allen Stottlemire’s success on game shows. Page 25
Well, as we bring in the new year with new neighbors and new businesses, I hope
this issue inspires you to plan to spend some time out in our beautiful community and
remember to love where you live because addresses this special do not come around often.
With gratitude,
