Puttick says she likes teaching second-graders because “at this age, the
students are eager to learn, but at the same time they are a little more independent
than first-graders.”
business for two years, but it did not feed her soul, and she
changed gears. “I decided to start volunteering as a reading
tutor in elementary schools. The satisfying feeling of giving
back suddenly returned, and this was the point at which
I decided to switch careers to become a teacher. I now get
to experience that delightful feeling on a daily basis in my
second-grade classroom,” says Puttick.
When Puttick interviewed at Imagine South Vero, she was
given the choice of several grades and she chose second. “I
had always heard from colleagues that second grade was a
fun age to teach, and I couldn’t agree more. At this age, the
students are young and eager to learn, but at the same time
they are a little more independent than first-graders and
able to handle more advanced learning activities. I truly love
teaching second grade,” says Puttick.
And she loves where she teaches. She was born and raised
in Vero, and it is also where she met her husband while a
student at Saint Edward’s School. “I consider it a blessing to
have grown up in this town, and now have the opportunity
to live and one day raise a family of my own here. Vero Beach
is home to most of my family, and it is also home to countless
wonderful memories of my childhood, which makes it a very
special place to me.”
