Memories Made in History
Consider one-of-a-kind Gilbert’s Bar House of Refuge Museum as a site for your special day. Built in 1876, the
House of Refuge is the oldest building in Martin County and is picturesquely nestled between the Atlantic
Ocean and the Indian River Lagoon. Listed on both the local and National Register of Historic Places, it is
the only remaining House of Refuge of the ten built by the U.S. Life-Saving Service along Florida’s East Coast.
The House of Refuge Museum’s tent covered patio is available for outdoor rentals starting at 4:00 pm. The
brick patio overlooking the ocean can accommodate up to 120 seated guests. Included in your rental is the
Quarters building - a non-public area for pre-ceremony preparation and a staging area for vendors. The
museum is closed during rentals, but arrangements can be made for a private tour for your guests.
