with a focus on seafood
and all priced for the local
market. The highest-priced
entrees are $22.
There’s a separate menu
for those who prefer to
nibble at the bar, although

The restaurant belongs
to Kelleher and Arens,
but the landmark building
The Patio’s red and white canopy covers
the entranceway to the popular
restaurant in Vero Beach
remains under the ownership of
the Sexton family. It was one of Waldo
Sexton’s additions to the Vero Beach
landscape. The Ocean Grill, Szechuan
Palace and The Driftwood Inn are others.
According to Waldo’s son, Ralph,
the Patio was built as a fruit stand for
Waldo’s sister, Lulu, who sold gift baskets
from the family’s packing house.
After World War II it became a Howard
Johnson’s franchise operated by Bob
Waldo Sexton collected
most of the pieces that
make his restaurants
unique.
