Indian River State College has appointed
campus presidents for the Pruitt Campus
in Port St. Lucie and the Chastain Campus
in Stuart.
Alessandro “Alex” Anzalone has been
named successor to Elizabeth “Beth” Gaskin,
who became IRSC vice president for
student success in February.
Andrew Treadwell, who takes over the
reins at the Pruitt Campus, has been with
the college since 2009 and has served as
part of the President’s Executive Leadership
team. He succeeds Harvey Arnold,
president emeritus, who retired in June.
“IRSC campus presidents serve in our
communities as lead ambassadors of the
College,” IRSC President Dr. Timothy Moore
said. “I look forward to seeing the tremendous
impact that both Andy and Alex will
have as campus presidents. They each
bring unique insight and experience to
these roles that will further our mission in
the communities we so proudly serve.”
Anzalone comes to IRSC from Hillsborough
Community College, where he was
dean of the Associate in Science programs
at the Brandon Campus since 2016. He
also served as interim campus president
from 2019 to 2021.
Prior to that, Anzalone
was program
chairman and an instructor
of engineering
technology from 2009-
2015. His teaching and
leadership experience
includes positions at
the Polytechnic University
of Puerto Rico in
San Juan, the University
of South Florida and
the Universidad Experimental Politecnica
in Venezuela.
Anzalone also brings private sector and
entrepreneurship experience. He serves as
vice president and founding co-partner of
Florida Contract Growers Inc., a successful
small wholesale producer of plants, herbs
and flowers. He worked for a Venezuelan
oil company in a refinery and its oil fields
and for a Venezuelan distillery. He also
supervised dozens of projects for Puerto
Rico’s pharmaceutical companies.
Anzalone believes employers and available
jobs are the drivers of the programs
the college should create or expand in
Martin County.
“Most people pursue a post-secondary
credential to improve their livelihoods or
change careers, and it is my job to provide
the pathways and means to help in that
process,” Anzalone explained. “I believe we
should focus on those programs that will
help our constituents get the education
needed at the right moment and at an
affordable price.”
Anzalone earned a doctorate from the
University of South Florida in Tampa; a
Master of Science degree from New York
University, Tandon School of Engineering
in Brooklyn, New York; and his Bachelor
of Science degree from the Universidad
Experimental Politecnica in Venezuela, all
in chemical engineering with minors in
environmental engineering.
Treadwell has served as the president’s
chief of staff while overseeing two key
college departments. He also has managed
many legislative activities including
coordinating local and statewide governmental
relations, developing annual
legislative priorities and budget requests
to lawmakers.
As Pruitt Campus president,
Treadwell will lead efforts to grow the college’s
largest branch campus; create innovative
partnerships in the community; and
enhance economic and business development
endeavors, particularly in the areas of
health care and nursing. He will continue
to coordinate IRSC legislative activities.
Noting that he is a Port St. Lucie
resident and is passionate about IRSC,
Treadwell said, “It is a tremendous honor
to take the helm of the Pruitt Campus at a
time when the future of St. Lucie County
is so bright. Our doors will be wide open
to the needs of our students, local businesses
and the community.”
Treadwell serves on the boards of
United Way of St. Lucie
County, Roundtable
of St. Lucie County
and St. Lucie County
Chamber of Commerce.
He volunteers with Big
Brothers Big Sisters of
St. Lucie, Indian River,
and Okeechobee Counties,
and the American
Cancer Society Treasure
Coast Chapter.
Many accolades recognize Treadwell’s
community service, including 40 Gators
Under 40 2020, University of Florida, the
Bob Graham Distinguished Service Award
2018, Florida College System Student
Government Association, and the Big
Brother of the Year/Match of the Year
2015, Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Lucie,
Indian River and Okeechobee Counties.
Treadwell holds a Master of Education
degree in higher education/higher education
administration from Florida Atlantic
University. He received a Bachelor of Arts
degree in political science and government
from the University of Florida.
