PUBLISHERS’ NOTE
SBDC, MAGAZINE OFFER TREASURE TROVE
OF INFORMATION FOR ALL BUSINESS OWNERS
Happy New Year from Treasure
Coast Business, the publication
dedicated to all things business
across the region. And as the Florida
Small Business Development Center
at Indian River State College begins
2022, it is time to reflect on and
review the center’s performance
and impact.
During the past two years, the
Florida SBDC at IRSC provided more
than 13,000 hours of credentialed
consulting to the business
community. It assisted clients in
accessing more than $180 million in
additional capital through revenue
growth, government contracting
and access to bank financing, disaster loans and grants.
So, what about the coming months? Opportunity is not just knocking along the Treasure
Coast — it has moved in. Business opportunities are visible every day in the form of new
commercial construction, economic development projects, business relocations and existing
business expansion.
With a drive through the region, one can see firsthand this business growth. Also, new
business starts have hit all-time records across the country, the state and the region. Hundreds
of entrepreneurs are launching new enterprises to leverage the region’s business growth and
expansion to build wealth for themselves and their families.
Make no mistake, while the opportunities are real — so are the risks of launching a new
venture. So how does one mitigate risk and improve chances of success? Area entrepreneurs
and small business owners have an array of business assistance tools and resources. Actually,
you are holding one of those important tools — Treasure Coast Business magazine. It provides
in-depth coverage of the region’s manufacturing, housing, retail, agriculture and research sectors,
along with assembling and presenting best practices articles. More than just a pretty cover, the
magazine is the region’s only publication dedicated to all things business.
The Florida SBDC at IRSC and Indian River State College are another two important and
valuable business assistance resources for regional existing business owners and aspiring
entrepreneurs. The IRSC School of Business offering of business coursework and training is
provided on-line or in the classroom to meet the scheduling needs of regional entrepreneurs and
small business owners. Both two- and four-year degrees in business are offered along with shortterm
business certificates for those seeking specific business and marketing training.
The center offers one-on-one, no-cost business consulting services along with financial, digital
media and other business-specific training programs.
Through innovative thinking, vision and the work of municipalities; IRSC; regional economic
development organizations; nonprofit business organizations such as Treasure Coast SCORE;
the Florida SBDC Network; and the regional legislative delegation, a powerful and valuable
entrepreneurial and small business ecosystem exists along the Treasure Coast. This ecosystem can
help create unimaginable possibilities for small businesses that will yield economic prosperity for
the entire region.
I encourage Treasure Coast entrepreneurs and small business operators to leverage and lean on
this powerful ecosystem to mitigate risks for the new venture and to grow and expand revenues
for existing small business. For more information regarding all the region’s business assistance
programs, keep reading Treasure Coast Business, email the Florida SBDC at IRSC at FSBDC@IRSC.
