Community events at the pavilion area of MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Event Center tend to feel a bit more comfortable
during the fall and winter months when the temperatures are cooler. Oktoberfest is coming to the pavilion
Sept. 30-Oct. 1. For this and other events around the community, check out Things To Do, beginning on Page 42.
As fall arrives, we face a season of change and we report some of these in this issue.
But all the news looks promising.
The best news – and probably no surprise – is that U.S. News & World Report has
ranked Port St. Lucie as one of the best places among small cities in the nation to live. The
ranking took into account such factors as the job market and quality of life.
As we went to press, vacation resort Club Med, one of the city’s best known landmarks
and the largest hotel property in St. Lucie County, was in the process of being sold for
$55 million to Altitude International Holdings Inc., which operates sports and academic
academies internationally.
Writer Anthony Westbury Page 10 shares what may be in the works for the 213-acre
complex. But one thing is certain. It will take at least two years to renovate. What will
happen to the club’s 225 employees is uncertain at this point, though Altitude has said it
will continue its sports training programs at Club Med uninterrupted.
In Let’s Get Physical Page 18 writer Ellen Gillette reports that Port St. Lucie gyms are
seeing an uptick on memberships now that COVID is subsiding. That can only mean
healthier residents. Ellen also gives some tips on keeping your brain fit in The Memory
Expert on Page 38.
Most comforting is the observation from her subject, Liz Knowles, that forgetting things
happens sometimes because we aren’t focusing. She has some great advice: Say things out
loud as you perform a task such as locking a door. “When we hear it, it implants deeper
into the brain,’’ she tells Ellen.
And before I forget: Thanks for all you do to make Port St. Lucie Magazine a success. Have
a great fall!
