Martin County Business Development Board and Partners Host Regional
Manufacturing Roundtable
The Business Development Board of Martin County,
Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County and
Indian River Chamber of Commerce hosted a Manufacturing
Roundtable, with its partners at Florida Makes, Florida
FLATE and Treasure Coast Manufacturing Association, to
discuss ways to break-down the barriers of building a more
robust talent pipeline for the industry.
Conducted at Indian River State College Chastain Campus
in Stuart, representatives shared their strong desire to see more local talent being
developed for the industry including from high schools and colleges and noted that
there should be more definitive career pathways, programs and initiatives developed in
concert with the manufacturing industry along the Treasure Coast.
Life skills, remedial reading and writing, spreadsheets and general business understanding
would be helpful to local manufacturers in attracting and developing talent.
Following the discussion and assessment of current partnerships and existing barriers,
participants agreed to a short-term viable project of coordinating a meeting between
industry leaders and local school boards in order to close the gap of understanding of
what the industry needs for a future talent pipeline and to begin to build a more consistent
