Another 2011 item of note
was the 20th anniversary of the
creation of the Garden Club’s
popular Christmas ornaments.
The designer, Vero Beach artist
Arun Wijetilleke, who has created
the ornaments since the very beginning,
notes that there is a high
demand for earlier versions as
well as the new ones, which are
quickly snapped up each season.
She recalls hearing a story about
a South Florida woman who
was willing to pay hundreds of
dollars for the original $10 train
station ornament.

The designs over the years
have told the history of Indian
River County, starting with the
old railroad station that now
houses the Indian River Historical
Society, and including the
citrus industry, along with Dodgertown,
Pelican Island, McKee
