The Treasure Coast Chorale is made up of singers who live in the area full
time or seasonally. New members are always welcome.
In a classic example of the music director’s sense of humor
and adventure, a local female singing group, The Dolls, performed
the purely American 1960s classic, “Chapel of Love.”
Carter programs concerts that appeal to audiences with a variety
of tastes. “Popular concerts in past years have included
music that’s sacred, patriotic, Irish, Canadian, Broadway and
Big Band,” he says.
“The Treasure Coast Chorale usually sings about 80
people,” Carter says. “Members are people from all walks
of life. We have snowbirds as well as people from all over
the Treasure Coast. Some sing in church choirs, some sing in
other community choruses, both here and up north.”
As minister of music and worship, Carter is in charge of all
aspects of the music program at First Baptist Church. A singer
himself, he earned his bachelor of music and master of music
(voice) degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Two family members serve with him at First Baptist. Wife
Patti is director of the weekday preschool, and son Nicholas,
25, is student ministries associate. Daughter Meghan Carter
Davis, 29, is director of the International Baccalaureate program
at Fairview Middle School in Tallahassee.
Getting to sing with the Treasure Coast Chorale is a simple
process, both for beginners in choral singing and for old
hands, according to Carter. Join the group by requesting a
basic audition or simply attend the concerts and sing along.
Rehearsals are Monday evenings at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist
Church, 2206 16th Ave., Vero Beach. All performances are in
the same location, Carter says, “in order that we may take
full advantage of their acoustical environment as well as their
media capabilities.”
