n American bittern wades through a marsh at Adams
Ranch west of Fort Pierce. Bitterns use their tan and brown
feathers as camouflage and hold their head straight up to
mimic reeds when in danger. Like other members of the
heron family, bitterns feed in marshes and shallow ponds,
dining on amphibians, fish, insects and reptiles. A BUD ADAMS
