MODERNIST PRINTS: 1900-1955
from the Syracuse University Art Collection
Jan. 13 – Feb. 18, 2012
This exhibition examines European and American prints
created in the first half of the 20th century. The images represent
many of the important artists of the era: Picasso, Kandinsky,
Rouault, and Miro from Europe; and Marin, Davies, and
Avery from America. Techniques include etching, woodcutting,
lithography, stenciling, screen-printing and engraving.
ART IN BLOOM

Art in Bloom is a three-day celebration pairing original
works of art with fresh flowers. This special event features arrangements
from florists around the Treasure Coast, inspired
by and placed alongside works of art in the traveling exhibition
Modernist Prints. The events will include a preview
party on Friday night and a garden luncheon and presentation
on Saturday.

TRIBUTE to A.E. BACKUS

For more than 20 years, the Backus Museum has presented
a Tribute to A.E. Backus, the “Dean of Florida Landscape
Painters.” Backus came into prominence as a national artist in
the 1960s, when his work was exhibited in President Lyndon
B. Johnson’s library in Texas and in Senate offices in Washington,
D.C. In 1993, he was inducted into the Florida Artists
Hall of Fame. Selected paintings from private collections will
be on exhibition.

museums around the world. Noted international textile artist
Petra Fallaux will be featured along with several other wellknown

Art Exhibit at the HOR Quarters. Buxton, of St. Augustine,
was born in Sudan of French parents and raised in Egypt,
where she studied art. She also studied art at the University
of Paris and has traveled widely throughout Europe, Hawaii,
Tahiti, Mexico and Canada, finally settling in Florida. She is a
Coast Guard artist.
