theaters also make the spaces available for community
rentals.
Laurie Weber celebrated her 25th wedding
anniversary at the then-Stuart Recreation
Center last year. “It was a typical recreation
center, but it was lovely,” she says. “We enjoyed
it so much we booked our daughter’s wedding
reception.” Later, after completion of the renovation
and the space was transformed into the
Lyric at Flagler Center, Weber was impressed.
“When I came to pay the bill,” she says, “I was
shocked. It was breathtaking. We surprised her
(at the reception) and she was in awe. Words
can’t describe this place.”
The ceilings were opened up to show the
original, sturdy beams in all three rooms. Color,
detail trim, new carpet, and comfortable furniture
give the old Rec Center a completely new
look. With almost 6,000 square feet of space for
the three venues, all three rooms are prewired
for sound and audio visual presentations.
Studios One and Two are about 2,250 square
feet each, while Ethel’s Lounge, named for Lyric
board president Ethel Christin, is 1,000 square
feet and is tastefully furnished for cocktail
receptions. Each studio can host 300 patrons in
the theater configuration.
Just a year into a 10-year lease, the Lyric is
about to complete its landscaping plans, which
include the possibility of setting up tents next to
the building to add even more capacity. There >>
