ith dozens of people volunteering and fundraising
efforts reaching $250,000, the new Kids’
Crossing Playground at Rotary Park opened
last fall near the intersection of 23rd Street and
Virginia Avenue. The 11,000-square-foot park was
completed by volunteers in five days. The effort drew the support
of churches, civic organizations, businesses, youth groups and
schools. “They say it takes a community to build a playground
such as this, but I say this playground helped to build our community,’’
said Joey Trefelner, the general coordinator of the project.
