McNeely has the first house within the city limits powered
by solar devices. The two-story, Spanish-style structure is
equipped with 23 solar panels. He is experimenting with
wind turbines and is working on a modern vertical axis turbine
in his living room. “It’s a beautiful work of art,” he says.
Then there is his 1986 Corvette, which he converted into an
electric-powered vehicle.
“It’s a real eye-catcher,” he says. “I bring it to different
events.” He’s hoping it will eventually get 200 to 250 miles on
a charge. He will also use the car to charge his house! “When
the sun sets and the wind is not blowing, there will be no
electricity, but the car will be able to power up the home.”
On top of that, McNeely collects barrels of rainwater, thousands
of gallons. “So if it rains, the wind blows or the sun shines,
I’m utilizing all the gifts nature provides and saving money.”
