with artists.

with their colorful chords. Indeed, much of the credit for
turning what many thought was a cultural wasteland
three decades ago into a beautiful small town filled with
a thriving arts scene is due to the arts council, which was
founded to stimulate the arts community.
And it does stimulate. With grants and personal development
programs for artists, gallery space to display local
talent and events like Arts Fest to celebrate beauty in all
forms, the community can’t help but recognize what an
arts oasis Martin County is.
“The S in arts council is the most critical letter,” said
Turrell. For her, the arts include all creative processes.
But what would art be without spectators to enjoy it?
“Our goal is to get the community engaged with artists,”

To accomplish that task, the council hosts five gallery >>

painting and sculpture to theater and literature.
