“You will never see another boat
like this,” says captain Scott Mantz,
who has been at the helm since 2008.
“Everyone comes by and asks what
kind of boat we are.”
Built in Stuart at Whiticar Custom
Boats, Boomer is built for comfort as
well as speed. “It’s not the fastest
boat in the world, but when it’s
rough no one will be passing me.
No one,” says Mantz. “The way this
boat was built is rock solid. When
it is running there isn’t a squeak
or a squeal anywhere. I have been
in rough seas, but I never worry
because of the way a Whiticar is
built. This boat is perfectly designed
for traveling.”
After fishing Florida waters in the
winter, Boomer sails to the Bahamas
in the early summer and Bermuda
and St. Thomas, V.I., in the late summer,
competing in the large tournaments.
The team of friends and
clients has won twice in the Bahamas
and has placed numerous times.
Several design elements give the
boat an edge in competitive fishing.
A day head at the cockpit makes it
easy to use the facilities in rough
seas instead of having to go below.
An enclosed staircase allows safe
passage to and from the bridge.
There are stainless steel shelves
for gear, an icemaker and a custom
refrigerator, all carefully arranged in
the cockpit for easy access during a
fishing frenzy.
The sliding door from the cockpit
into the salon responds at the
touch of a button. Inside, the doors,
cabinets and stowage have the
