tion, boaters love the geography of
the protected harbor at the marina;
the amenities of the clubhouse, including
a laundry room and showers;
and a really efficient dinghy
mooring field.
Cruisers consider their boats
homes, even if just for a portion
of the year. Many never have a
permanent home anywhere but on
their boat.
But the CLODs have swapped
that life for a more traditional place
on land, though they make certain
to never lose the connection with
other cruisers.
Bill and Lillie Taylor sailed
here in 2004 and bought a house
on land. In April this year they
sold their big house and bought a
condo to store their things so they
can get back to sailing, “The boating
bug never leaves your soul,”
said Lillie Taylor.
That is why there is a constant
ebb and flow to the CLODs. Some
make Vero their final home, but
many cannot resist going back out.
