Velcro Beach.”
Reynolds and his wife, Rose, live in
Indian Trails now but spend a part of
every year sailing. From February to May
they are in the Southern Bahamas at the
Exumas on the boat.
“There are about 350-400 boats that
harbor down there and attend the
George Town Cruising Regatta,” said
Reynolds. “A lot of the CLODs attend.
We like to race in the regatta, but there is
a lot of events other than just boat races.
We have parties, volleyball tournaments,
sand sculpture contests and a big
scavenger hunt.”
Bill Sandelin has been the regatta chairman
twice and says he thinks the binding
connection is that many of the cruisers all
share much of the same history.
“Out on the water, we all help each other and have
visited many of the same places and gone to the same
ports and regattas.”
Sandelin said that on the water, the cruisers depend
on each other for gas, assisting with repairs or help in
an emergency.
His wife, LaVerne, said that being in a boating mobile
community is much the same as living in Vero Beach and
getting connected with the CLODs.
“It was wonderful to come here because we saw all these
people we already knew and felt at home right away,” she
said. “We never felt like we were moving into a new town
because we ran into everyone we knew all over Vero and
everyone helps each other just like out on the water.”
